What is Google Adsense?

What is google adsense? Well to get the full rundown its probably best to go to google's pages and read the guidelines and such, however, to put it simply adsense is a simple way of advertising on your website and making a profit from people who click through to those ads. It works like this:

Once you have a website built (no 'in development' or half built websites) then you can approach google to see if they will let you use their adsense scheme. Now obviously they have some guidelines such as no offensive or pornographic sites, or site that are just adverts and such like, but if you build a website with a fair bit of content, or have a hobby or interest website, then this is a good way to make a bit of extra cash.

If and when you are accepted, you can choose the format of the ads you wish to display and copy and paste a little bit of code into your website, this is very easy to do. This will then display ads on your page(s) - you can add this same code to every page.

Google will then analyse the content of the page, and display ads it thinks are relevant to that particular page, (a little like the ads down the right of google itself) i.e. if the page is all about snooker cue's, then the adds will most likely be for snooker cues and snooker related products.

Now Google won't tell you how much you will get per click, but this obviously depends on the amount the advertisers are paying per click. Ie the higher the better. So for example a website about insurance that displays ads for car insurance will no doubt be worth more per click to you that say.. a site about fishing bait, which I doubt has a particulary high cost per click. (not that I have checked... but you get the gist)

However, you can see in your reports (daily if you like) what the click through rates are and how much you have earned, so its pretty easy to figure out your average earning per click (they even tell you this.)

So, the bottom line is, if you have a website already, sign up! if not, then why not build a hobby website about your interests, and then monetize it with googleadsense. Makes sense to me.
