Google Adwords

What are Google adwords? And what is Googlecash?

Adwords, simply put are the little square adverts you see down the right side of every search page on google. They are basically adverts that poeple pay to place on the listings, a little like 'sponsored results' on some search engines. However, you can't simply buy a spot, you have to 'bid' on them. Sounds strange, and it is a little. When you first sign up for adwords, Goole does a pretty good job of explaining how they work. Basically you write your little ad, you tell it where to go when someone clicks on it, then you make a list of keywords for your ad. Your ad will be displayed when someone types the keyword into googles search box, assuming you have 'bid' enough money. The bidding idea is reffered to as 'pay per click' or PPC and works like this:

Lets say I want to write an adwords ad to sell snooker cues, I make the title 'great deals on snooker cues' and then a description something like, 'Huge range of cues, in all price ranges'. I then make the display URL 'www.argos.co.uk' and make the actual URL a deeplink to the argos snooker cue page with my affiliate ID embedded so I will make a commision on any sales.

Next I have to choose my adwords keywords, lets say I choose:

snooker cues
pool cues
cues
ash cues
riley cues

Now I have to choose how much I would like to pay maximum for every time someone clicks on my ad. If I pick a maximum of £0.50 then Google will place my ad above the next lowest maximum bid by 1p. So theoretically if the next lowest maximum bid is £0.40 then I will show above it and be charged £0.41 if someone clicks it. It doesn't actually work like this, but thats the basic idea. See advanced Adwords.

You can then set the maximum budget you want to spend in a day, and whether you want google to spread your adwords out over the course of the day to take you up to your maximum, or just run until it runs out (if you are getting the clicks).

No this is often as far as poeple go with adwords, they bid and stick hundreds of related keywords in and off they go. This is a very fast way to lose money. There is an art to google adwords, and hopefully I'll show you some of the finer points.
