Link Structures.

Ensuring your important pages get the most benefit from your link structure.

When your website gets a google ranking, this 'pagerank' as (displayed on your google toolbar) is shared out with all your other webpages. Any links on a page get a proportionate part of the page rank passed down to the target page, including external websites you may point to. This means you will have to be careful with your links to ensure your most important pages get the most PR passed to them. A good practice is to make every page link back to the home page. This can be done with a simple 'home' link in your menu or navigation bar. It may be worth calling this something relevant to your website theme ie: 'back to tennis rackets home' to include the phrase in the link text. This is due to the way major search engines use both external and internal anchor text in there ranking algorithms.

Your most important pages should be linked from every other page in your website. That way, a percentage of the pagerank for every page will be passed on to help boost the pagerank of those important pages. As the page with the most pagerank (due to external links) is the index page, it makes sense that your most important pages should definately be linked from there. You have to be careful at this point and weigh up how many links you shoiuld have. If you have 300 pages, and each points to 30 other pages, those 30 pages will gain less PR than if every page linked to 10 other pages. Bear this in mind.

Outgoing links should be avoided whenever possible. Obviously affiliate links will need to be in place, but avoid any unneccesary external links as these will 'leak' your hard earned PR out to other websites! It has been suggested that pages with more outbound lnks should also have more internal links, to keep more of the Pagerank within your website. so if you have 10 outgoing links on a page, and 10 internal links, 50% of the pagerank will leak from the site. If you had 10 outgoing links and 30 internal links, theoretically only 25% of the pagerank should be leaked from the page. Something to think about.

Now you need to improve your PR (pagerank), the only way to do that is by getting links to your website, and not just any old links, heres what to do:

Exchanging Links
